Carey Ryan

Carey Ryan

Carey’s interest in the healing arts is grounded her commitment to health and balance in her own life. After completing undergraduate studies in the liberal arts at the University of Kings college in Halifax, Nova Scotia, she moved to Ann Arbor where she began a journey of studying and applying concepts of holistic healing.

While completing a pre-med curriculum, Carey studied and practiced several energy modalities based in applied kinesiology. She enjoyed doing healing work and when deciding on a professional course of study, she wanted to pursue training in a health care field that would provide tools to facilitate true healing and wellness for patients, and also one in which the self care of the practitioner would be taken into account. She chose to complete a four year Master’s of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine in Chicago, IL. This MSTOM program provided a solid foundation of proficiency in TCM theory and diagnosis, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, guasha and moxibustion.

Upon graduation in 2009, Carey started a private practice in Ann Arbor. In 2010 she joined the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine Department at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. Soon thereafter she completed a 300 hour post graduate course in Contemporary Acupuncture at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ont. In addition to her full time clinical work, Carey served for two years as the Vice-President of the MAAOM, the professional acupuncturists association of Michigan. In 2014 Carey joined Dr. Lu’s Nourishing Life practice. In 2015 she began working with him full time.

Carey considers it an honor to work collaboratively with Dr. Lu. His remarkable background allows for an exceptional level of authentic Traditional Chinese medicine to be provided in his clinic. His astounding diagnostic abilities, skillful treatment planning, practical self care advice and dynamic team approach provide a unique and powerful resource for healing. Carey appreciates Dr. Lu’s commitment to environmental consciousness, as is exemplified by his non-profit work which promotes the cultivation of organic Chinese herbs in China, and the use of these herbs in his Nourishing Life practice. She deeply resonates with his stance on the importance of food, and is inspired by his skill in preparing delicious seasonal and medicinal organic meals. As Dr. Lu embodies and models the wisdom of Chinese Medicine, he serves as example and teacher. Carey is grateful for the knowledge and support the Nourishing Life approach allows her and is excited to share this with others.
